SBS (Special Boat Service) is the name of a special unit of the British armed forces, which was formed in 1940 by Roger Courtney. At present, the branch specializes in broadly understood activities in water bodies, such as retrieving ships from the hands of terrorists, boarding, but also mining ports or planting mines under enemy ships. The unit is also trained for land operations - for example, for reconnaissance and reconnaissance tasks, but also for destroying port facilities. After World War II, its structure was based on the patterns taken from the SAS. At present, it has no more than 200 commandos, which are divided into four squadrons of 40-50 soldiers each. The SBS unit is administratively subordinate to the British Royal Marines, and in the course of the operation - to the Special Forces Commanders. During World War II, SBS was used primarily in the Mediterranean and the Far East. After 1945, SBS took part in many local conflicts, e.g. in the Korean War (1950-1953) or during the Second Gulf War (2003).
