Aveling and Porter was a British company dealing with the development and production of various types of road machinery powered by a steam engine. The company was founded in 1862 by joining the company of inventor Thomas Aveling and entrepreneur Richard Thomas Porter. It is worth adding that the former produced steam engines on a small scale since 1850. Shortly after the company was founded, in 1865, the company produced its first road steamroller. Relatively quickly, it was this relatively niche industry that became the main domain of Aveling and Porter's operation, which became the world's largest producer of this type of machines! It is worth adding that the presented roller was exported to many countries in the world, including the United States, and for those times it was characterized by considerable reliability and mechanical efficiency. It is worth adding that in 1901 Aveling and Porter entered a joint venture with the Vickers factories, and in 1919 it became part of a conglomerate of companies called Agricultural and General Engineers Limited, AGE for short.
